The Tibetan Medicine Diet & Lifestyle Counselor Program has been one of the most transformative experiences in my life. Through this program, I gained profound insight into human health, diagnostic methods, and treatment approaches in a compassionate and holistic way. I sincerely recommend this program to anyone interested in health, healing, and a deeper understanding of human nature.
— Atsushi Kubo, Health Consultant and Therapist
The Tibetan Diet and Lifestyle program adds a truly valuable dimension to my work, especially in understanding constitutional patterns, elemental balance, and how diet, behavior, and environment influence health in ways that modern medicine often overlooks. Being part of this program was deeply enriching, both as a practitioner and as a student of life.
— Dr. Alexina Mehta, Naturopathic Doctor

This program is for you, if you are:

A healing professional (Western Doctor, Ayurvedic Doctor, Functional Medicine Practitioner, Nurse, Acupuncturist, Massage Therapist, Counselor, etc.) interested in enriching your practice and helping more people

A caregiver, wishing to care for children, elderly, or other people in your life with more knowledge

Just stepping into the world of healing and want to build your practice in an authentic, time-tested system

A Buddhist practitioner seeking to deepen your knowledge and understanding of the body, channels, and health from the Buddhist point of view

A nutritionist who wants to see the qualities of food from a unique point of view and learn how to use it as medicine

I am truly grateful that I had the opportunity to learn from Dr. Phuntsog Wangmo and Irina Pankevich. We learned the basics of the Tibetan language. Dr. Phuntsog kindly explained the original Tibetan medical texts, which allowed us to understand this precious knowledge more deeply. Moreover, we cooked together, became familiar with different kinds of foods, spices, and tastes. It was not just a theoretical course—we truly experienced it.
— Mariann Csányi, Physiotherapist
I am drawn to Tibetan medicine studies as it sees the whole person as cosmos. The body mirrors the universe, the five elements (earth, water, fire, wind, space) are both outside and inside you. It is a beautiful system based in balance and unity. It is one that emphasizes the importance of cultivating compassion for all beings. I am excited to continue education on the path of becoming a Tibetan Medicine Doctor.
— Barbara Mehta Alexander, Lawyer in the Public Service

Tibetan Medicine

With a history going back over 4,000 years, traditional Tibetan medicine is one of the oldest continuously practiced healing systems on Earth. Regarded as science, art, and philosophy, Tibetan Medicine is an ancient form of holistic healthcare indigenous to the Tibetan people, and as such it integrates the core Buddhist principles of altruism, karma, and ethics. Over thousands of years this native Tibetan science synthesized with accumulated knowledge from China, Persia, India, and Greece. Since this time it has been practiced continuously throughout Tibet, the Himalayan regions, India, Mongolia, and Siberia, as well as in the Western world wherever Tibetans live in exile.

Approach

Each semester combines a bipartite approach to the study of the Tibetan Medicine tradition, which includes core foundation studies based on the topics of the Four Tantras and clinical practicums - intensives.

Structure

TM Diet & Lifestyle Counselor program offers three consecutive semesters. There are no electives or part/time study options in the Tibetan Medicine program and students are expected to participate in all aspects covering each semester’s topics.

All topics, number of hours per topic, and sequence of course topics are subject to change due to the needs of each particular class and faculty.

A unique way of viewing health, diet, and treatment through the nature of elements

Among many conflicting messages we hear today, Tibetan Medicine brings clarity and wisdom rooted in deep understanding of the body, energy, and mind and Buddhist principle of compassion.

By studying Tibetan Medicine, you learn to see everything through the nature of elements.

By understanding the elements, you learn to see how diet & lifestyle choices affect your health and the health of your clients.

You will know which elements are prevalent in certain foods based on the flavor, and then decide whether this food will be healing or harmful for a specific condition.

It is different from what we see in modern diet trends, with a one-size-fits-all approach.

You will slowly learn to see the body and everything around you through the wisdom of elements and their qualities, and will hold profound knowledge of how to help yourself and others in a simple and accessible way.
